Mayor's message

The Mackay Showgrounds will be ablaze with spectacular colour and sound for the opening of the Mackay Festival of Arts on July 10.

Now in its 23rd year, the 15-day festival’s theme, Fire and Sound, offers audiences a scorching array of fabulous music, theatre, dance and comedy acts to set all senses on fire. The bar was raised very high last year when the festival was spread region wide for the very first time.  The 2010 Festival of Arts promises to fire up your imagination, sound out new ideas and venues and, as always, bring you exciting events and activities for the entire community.

Last year saw the G & S Engineering Wine and Food Day break all attendance records when 25,000 people took part in this much-loved event at Queens Park. In 2010, it will return bigger and better than ever. Once again there will be two main stages, arts activities and amusements for all the family, great food and wine and giant puppets.

I encourage everyone to be involved in and enjoy the Mackay Region Festival of Arts - one of the largest and most exciting regional arts festivals in Queensland. There will be a fiery array of talent and acts on show for you to enjoy and your attendance will help to support and celebrate the diverse talent our region and, and our nation, has to offer.

The 2010 festival promises to be an amazing fire and sound spectacular and I look forward to seeing you there.
